| Noise in
telecommunications circuits can cause a wide variety of problems ranging from slight
annoyances to major system disruptions. Did you ever wonder when you got disconnected from
your internet provider. "Was it noise or was I dumped?" Dumped? Do
Internet Providers really do that? You bet they do. In some cases you get dumped if you
are on too long. In other cases, you get dumped when your activity level is too low. When
this problem was experienced at Hudson Research, we checked with our service provider who
said"Must be noise on your phone lines, call the phone company." So we called
the phone company who said," Those lines are fine. No noise. Call your service
provider." After this happened to us, we decided to do something. Our skills in
electronic warfare lend themselves very nicely to a docile problem like noise in a
telephone circuit. We developed some new software that lets us use our high-speed digital
oscilloscope as a telecommunications signal analyzer. We made a special probe/cable
assembly that faithfully transmits these little noise pulses for analysis. We set it up
one afternoon and after connecting it to our computer telephone line and dialing up our
provider we were immediately able to put the issue to rest. Once we had calibrated our
unit we determined that noise spikes correlated with fewer than ten percent of the
disconnects we were experiencing! We had identified the culprit and had scientific proof.
We have decided to offer our analytical skills and tools as a service. We will come to
your office and analyze your phone lines and verify their quality. Hardcopy documentation
is produced on the spot. You can then use our report when addressing your problem with
your phone company or internet service provider as appropriate. CONTACT US for further details and to arrange an on-site
analysis. |
